M-Tag Balance Tracker: Log Motorway Tolls and Top Up Before You Run Low
By Admin User · 5 October 2026 · 2 min read
The M-Tag is the RFID sticker that pays tolls on Pakistan's motorways. Each time you pass a toll plaza, the toll is deducted from the tag's prepaid balance automatically. The National Highway Authority now enforces M-Tag on motorways, and a vehicle without a tag or without enough balance pays a 25% surcharge on the toll. The balance itself never expires, so the only thing to watch is that it doesn't run out mid-trip.
Why You Have to Track It Yourself
NHA does not offer an API for M-Tag balances. The official ways to check are an SMS, sending Balance <your tag ID> to 9909, or the M-Tag app. AmrokGate can't read the balance for you, so it gives you a simple ledger that does the arithmetic and warns you before you run low.
How the Tracker Works
- Add your tag to a car in your Garage with its tag ID and your current balance
- Log tolls as you travel, with an optional route such as "M-2 Lahore to Islamabad". Each toll is deducted from your balance.
- Log top-ups, which are added back
- Record a balance check: whenever you check by SMS, enter the real figure and the tracker resets to it, which corrects any toll you forgot to log
Back-dated or deleted entries are fine. The running balance is recalculated from the whole history every time.
Low-Balance Alerts
Set the amount you want to be warned at (Rs 500 by default). When your balance drops below it, you get one alert through the app, push notification and email, and the car's page turns red until you top up. The alert resets after a top-up, so the next dip warns you again.
The Check real balance button on web and in the app opens your messages with the 9909 SMS already written. Set up your M-Tag from any car in My Garage.
